This falsehood has gained such strength that multitudes of Christians refer to it as the "Jewish Sabbath." But nowhere do we find such an expression in the Bible. It is called "the Sabbath of the Lord," Exodus 20:10, but never "the Sabbath of the Jews."
Firstly, we would like to point out to all Christians that the Bible was written by Jews. God wanted to make the Nation of Israel an example to ALL nations and peoples to follow, obviously they failed!! The Oracles or the words of God were given to the Jews. You can confirm this in Romans 3:1-2 & it reads; “What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.” The NIV version even says; “First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God” Romans 3:1-2
Jesus even said; "salvation is of the Jews" in John 4:22, when He was speaking to the women at the well…The fact of the matter is, the Bible is a book for EVERYONE!! & written by Jews for EVERYONE!!
Also, please notice what God commanded in the book of Isaiah, even to the strangers (Gentiles); "Blessed is the man...that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it.... Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the Lord, to serve him, and to love the name of the Lord, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer...for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people." Isaiah 56:2, 6-7
Luke a writer of the New Testament and often made reference to things which were peculiarly Jewish. He spoke of the "nation of the Jews," "the people of the Jews," "the land of the Jews," and the "synagogue of the Jews." Acts 10:22; 12:11; 10:39; 14:1. But please note that Luke never referred to the "Sabbath of the Jews," although he mentioned the Sabbath repeatedly.
Christ clearly taught that "the Sabbath was made for man." Mark 2:27. The fact is that Adam was the only man in existence at the time God made the Sabbath. There were no Jews in the World for at least 2,000 years after creation! It could never have been made for them. Jesus used the term "man" in the generic sense, referring to mankind.
Some quote the following words to prove that the Sabbath was given as a sign between God and Israel only, but not for the church: "Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, verily My Sabbaths you shall keep ... it is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested..." Exodus 31:13 & 17.
Firstly, notice that God called the Sabbath "my Sabbaths," not 'Israelites Sabbaths'. Secondly, the Sabbath will endure "forever." Thirdly, Gods reason for giving the Sabbath goes back to creation week, "for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth" (Genesis 1; 2:1-3), long before Israel existed. Thus the Sabbath day is God's day.
'Many do not understand that if we are Christ's then we are spiritual Jews and the Israel of God. If we reject this truth then we cannot be under the New Covenant.'
Paul wrote this to the Gentiles: "If ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed..." Galatians 3:28-29. According to the New Testament, Gentiles are "grafted in" Romans 11:11-24 and become part of 'spiritual Israel'. Paul also teaches in 1st Corinthians 10:1-22 that ALL who follow Christ, are part of Spiritual Israel and that literal Israel was an example to us, and how we are to be careful in how we are to walk with God. Further more Paul teaches that "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." Romans 2:28-29.
"For this is the covenant that I will make with the HOUSE OF ISRAEL after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:" Hebrews 8:10 & Jeremiah 31:31-34
The Bible clearly teaches that the Sabbath was made for ALL people, and is not exclusive to a race of people.
Lastly, we must not overlook the fact that this God who created the world and made the Sabbath was Jesus Christ Himself. John wrote: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father), full of grace and truth." John 1:1-3 & 14.
For Christians to state that the Sabbath Day was made only for the Jews is a tragic mistake! For He is the Author, the Maker, the Sanctifer, and the Architect of the Sabbath.
